The Chinese leadership hoped that the world would soon forget the Tiananmen Square massacre. Our job in Congress is to ensure that we never forget those who lost their lives in Tiananmen Square that day or the pro-democracy cause for which they fought.

On June 4th 1989, the Chinese leadership ordered a crackdown on student protesters. In a matter of days, they had killed hundreds and arrested thousands of students. In a move to erase this painful event from history, they destroyed the student memorials, removed all the photographs of the student c... asualties and in a move to forget about it all, the government wiped out any mention of the protests from Chinese textbooks and history books.
